I've called in reinforcements.

I'm desperately exhausted and my house looks worse than I've ever seen it. I broke down tonight and called my in-laws to come and help! My parents have been in southern Florida fishing all week. The week before was vomit and diarrhea city at the Scott house and no one wanted to step foot near us. The week before that was Christmas... I've been overwhelmed.
So, Bob and Julia are coming first thing in the morning. They are wonderful with Thomas and Catherine and it will give Joe and I a much needed chance to do things on our To Do list and maybe take a nap.

not feeling very Gouda 'bout this...

At the risk of sounding cheesy... and as a cheese lover of (almost) all kinds...I was devastated- and quite upset- to learn that I have been mispronouncing Gouda all of my life. I feel robbed of the one silly joke I always make when eating Gouda and mushroom burgers... "Its very, very Gouda!"
It's actually pronounced something that sounds like "howda," with the addition of the phlem-making sound at the beginning. I guess I could say, "Howda ya like your burger?" It just doesn't have the same ring to it though.

Am I the only one or just the last to know?

a soft place to fall

The kids have a soft place to fall now! I bought a remnant and had it binded along with a hypoalergenic pad backing put on it. Here is the finished result:

Catherine has been her normal, sweet self. She is one juicy baby... drooling all over the place. Maybe we will get a tooth soon.

Thomas finally went back to school today after being out for Christmas break and then having the stomach virus. He was so happy to see his friends. Here is the look I got when I asked him if he had fun at school today...

5 hours of pure bliss!

Thank you to my wonderful sister, Amy, who baby-sat the kids today while Joe and I had some time together. You have no idea how that blesses us!

We ran around town for a little while before having lunch at Carrabba's Italian Grill. Then, we came home and took a much needed nap together. Joe bought Thomas a very cool marble maze while we were out. Thomas loves it!!

cooking up somethin'

I found this kitchen for Thomas and Catherine at The Company Store on sale. It was marked down from $249 to $99. Thomas LOVES cooking so I know this will be a hit!

Thomas & Mommy making whole wheat yeast bread.

Thomas' friend, Porter, gets in on the kitchen action sometimes, too!
(making Chicken Noodle Soup)

Free and DELICIOUS meat

Anyone who knows me knows that I live in my kitchen. Cooking is one of my many passions and I am so excited to be getting the most delicious meat from Blue Ribbon now.

Their meat has no growth hormones, chemicals, preservatives, dyes or colorings. I love that they offer Sashimi grade seafood for homemade sushi!!

Call my friend Randy Daly at (615) 885-8665 for a free cooler of the best meat you have ever tasted. You get 2 pork chops, 2 ground beef patties and two lemon pepper chicken breasts.

.... tell him I sent you!

Days of the Week

As if I don't have enough to concern myself with... I have to know which day of the week it is, too. What in the world were they thinking when they came up with Days of the Week bibs, panties, burp cloths, onesies, etc.... Are they trying to feed my mommy insecurities? With a hungry child already in her highchair and giving her babyfood jar the hairy eyeball.... she will just have to wait while I dig through the bib drawer to find the correct day of the week bib. Added to the time it takes to sort through the bibs would be the long pause it takes me to calculate which day we are actually on.

I need something a little easier, like Months of the Year. Even then, I would struggle from time to time.

adoption

*neckless made by Little Painted Polka Dots

Something so amazing is happening in our extended family and I am so excited! My cousin, Clay, and his wife, Tracy, are adopting a son from Ethopia. I am so excited for them on so many levels.

First and foremost, I think it is incredible to witness a young, married couple with two children totally pour themselves into God's work. Clay has just become a deacon at his church after several years of teaching Sunday School to 10th-grade boys. He mentors them, spends time with them, invests himself in their lives. Tracy is teaching a group of girls... I'm not sure which grade. I just don't know how they do it with two little ones. Now, they are answering the call to bring in a child from across the globe.

Adoption has always been a part of the human experience. There can be no doubt of this, because the Bible uses the word to explain how by becoming a Christian, we become, by adoption, children of God.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice." Proverbs 31:8,9

Joe and I are going to have a little date night with Clay and Tracy in a few weeks. I love keeping up with the adoption process and imagining this child's face.

Check out their blog.

the kids

Catherine is already 8-months-old! Can you believe it? She has so much hair and not even a hint of a tooth!

Thomas (26 months) and Murphy (8 months) are partners in crime!

Where is Baby's Mommy?

Being a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM) isn't easy... and SAHM I am. After long days (and sometimes nights) of crying, messing, pooping, screaming, diapers, laundry, dishes, etc... I will admit to dreaming up places for Joe and I to trot off to on the weekend. Recently, I'm dreaming of flying to New York to see the Harlem Gospel Choir perform. Sometimes I dream a little bigger and wish I was doing mission work in Tankana. The variety of places I go in my mind is incredibly broad.

I found a book that really sums up how a SAHM can feel when she gets overwhelmed with the duty, and doody, of being Super Mom.

I present, "Where is Baby's Mommy?" by Karen Katz
Photobucket

It's a no-nonsense guide to hiding from your kids. According to Karen Katz, it's perfectly acceptable to do when times get tough.

I thought I was really spoiling myself with taking longer potty breaks... sitting there, alone (sometimes, if I'm lucky), in a quite room (again, if I'm lucky). This book really takes it to the next level. Mommy hides and the baby is looking all over the house for her.

It's no suprise where the baby ends up finding her... in bed and under the covers.

You know where to find me if you need me......

Let brotherly love continue. Hebrews 13:1

I have waited patiently for the day when Thomas and Catherine would actually play together and really enjoy each other. The day has arrived. This makes my heart so glad!!

What's This All About?

Welcome to our blog! If you’re reading this, you may be wondering, “What does ‘Three-Two-One’ mean?" I’d like to explain the meaning and I would invite you to share any related thoughts or comments.

First, the “Three” stands for three strands, a reference to Ecclesiastes 4:12. Two of the strands are for my wife, Sarah, and myself. The third strand is the Lord Jesus Christ. I know you may be already thinking “He’s one of those religious guys, I’m out of here” – please, before you click off this website, hear me out. Sarah and I are not “religious,” in the sense that it has come to mean in many societies, including ours. We’re sick and tired (as are many of you) of so many “Christians” going to church with plastic smiles on their faces, then coming home and yelling at the kids, kicking the dog, cheating on their spouses and cutting shady business deals. We’re tired of people who say they are “Christians” and then use the worst kind of hateful language imaginable when talking with (or about) people with whom they disagree. You might be interested to know that the writers of the Bible had a problem with those people, too (James 1:26-27).

OK, so if we’re not “religious,” then what are we, right? Well, as I said earlier, the “Three” in our name stands for three strands, and all three are in relationship with each other – myself, my wife, and Jesus. When I talk about a relationship with Jesus, I’m not talking about a mystical, superspiritual, hokey kind of thing. I mean a real relationship like you would have with a really good friend. See, here’s the thing about a good friend – a good friend will encourage you. A good friend will let you know if you’re messing your life up, even if it costs him/her your friendship. A good friend will stick close to you no matter what happens. A good friend will have wonderful, meaningful, fun, and constructive conversations with you. And a good friend – a really, really good friend – would even give his life for you. Jesus fits all those characteristics perfectly.

Wherever I look these days I see Jesus characterized in many ways, many of which are absolutely unfounded. I’ll tell you what Jesus is not: He’s not stuck in a stuffy church with stained glass windows boring everyone to death with stale songs and staler preaching. He’s not looking down, scowling, waiting for a chance to send you to hell for slipping up. He is, instead, compassionate to the outcasts (John 4:1-42). He is passionate about what is important to Him, about things that matter (John 2:13-16). He hates hypocrisy about as bad as anything (Matthew 23:1-36). He loves everyone (John 3:16) and doesn’t want anyone to die not knowing Him (2 Peter 3:9). He isn’t a boring stick-in-the-mud; He likes to go to parties (Matthew 9:9-11, John 2:1-2) and likes to have fun. He not only can make wine (John 2:6-10), He’s a connoisseur and can make some really amazing wine (John 2:9-10)!

So what’s it like to have a relationship with Jesus? Well, it’s like any relationship with a good friend – there’s going to be ups and downs. The ups and downs aren’t His fault; they are ours. We’re human, and we make plenty of mistakes. But the closer my wife and I get to each other and to Jesus, the more we realize how much more freeing and fulfilling life can be. Jesus, through His friendship and through our bonding together, teaches us what it’s like to be, well, a true human being – what we were made to be like. Are we great at it? No. We’ll never be as good at that as we’d like to be. But it’s the striving, the growing, the constant maturing that matters to God. And, since we know Jesus*, like a true friend He keeps gently nudging us to be better

Okay, so I’ve talked about the three strands. The “Two” part is next – that’s easy. We have two kids, a son, Thomas, and a daughter, Catherine. They are incredible. It is an indescribable privilege to be their parents and to have the awesome opportunity and responsibility to raise them. Our hope for them is that they will see the bond Sarah, Jesus, and I have made together and they will want the same for themselves. We know they have to make their own minds up about this. We want our lives to plainly be set before them and show them what it’s like to know God and walk with Him as best as we can. We do and will make mistakes, but we always tell them we’re sorry and we strive to do better the next time.

Lastly, “One” – for one purpose. This ties in with what I said earlier with the relationship we have with Jesus but goes a little further. Our sole purpose is to walk with Jesus and to follow Him. See, when you have a friend who is such a good friend that he or she encourages – no, compels – you to greater things, you want to spend a lot of time with that person, right? You want to do things to help that person. You want to please that person. You want to serve that person. That’s what our goal is, our purpose – to serve the Lord Jesus with our lives and to bless others along the way. Are we perfect at it? Of course not. Do we fail at it? Yes. But we never expect to be perfect at it – we’re human, after all – we just get back up, say we’re sorry, and keep moving forward.

More to come. Thanks for reading.

Joe

* To find out more about being a friend to Jesus, please ask us or click here. One of the main aspects to this friendship is to first recognize that you cannot be God’s friend and have a close walk with Him on your own, and that you need His help to do that. It’s not a natural thing for anyone, to be friends with Jesus and to walk with Him through life. You have to recognize your need for Him first.

Dear Lord, Please bail us out of here soon!

I almost thought it was a joke when I first heard about it, but, it isn't. Well, it sort of is. I'm sure that Flynt is making an example of how the bailing out of every other company is ridiculous. One has to admit, considering his line of work, it certainly gets an immediate reaction. Which is the point.

PORN INDUSTRY SEEKD FEDERAL BAILOUT

“We should be delivering [the request] by the end of today to our congressmen and [Secretary of the Treasury Henry] Paulson asking for this $5 billion dollar bailout,” he told CNN Wednesday.
Flynt and Francis concede the industry itself is in no financial danger — DVD sales have slipped over the past year, but Web traffic has continued to grow.
But the industry leaders said the issue is a nation in need. "People are too depressed to be sexually active," Flynt said in the statement. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex."
"With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly."

If only for this life we have hope in Christ,we are to be pitied more than all men.

Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa

It’s a boy for Lisa Bonet (Cosby Show star) and Jason Momoa! His name is Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.

Unless their baby came out looking like the drawing below, there is no excuse for a name like that!
Photobucket

Can you imagine seeing this on a business card? Or how about the poor nurse at the doctor's office who has to attempt to pronounce it into the waitiing room when the poor boy has been beat up for the umpteenth time for having a "please beat me up" name like that? "uh, ummm, nuh-kuh-wuh-muh, ummm, wolf, uhhh, Wolfman? Are you here?"

I've got the New Year Blues (in a sing-song voice!)

WHEW... and Shooooo-weeeee
It's been a terrible year. Granted, it's only been a week long so far. The nastiest of nasty stomach bugs has bitten myself and both of my little ones! (It only bit me in the butt, thank you Lord!) Thomas and Catherine were throwing up and having diarrhea.
I'm soooo behind on laundry. The 1st day I did six loads of towels, rags, clothes, bedding, etc.... I can't imagine what our water bill will be this month.

Here is Thomas with a serious case of nausea, an even more serious case of "bed head" and a cup of ice chips.

Photobucket

On a lighter note, no pun intended, I've shed 11 pounds!!! Every cloud has a silver lining.

Yesterday morning, sweet Catherine was playing in the floor on a blanket and I had a few precious moments to myself. Joe already left for doctor duty and Thomas was sleeping in. I reached for the TV remote to see what had taped on TiVo. (fingers were crossed for The City)
and I felt a little nudge from the Lord saying, "Read Me." So, this was all I was able to read before Thomas woke up in a terrible mood.

Keep me safe, O God,
for in you I take refuge.

I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing."

Psalm 16:1-2

How blessed was I to have that with me throughout the day, alone, with two sick babies?

Joe has been a huge help and has adjusted to the mess of a house this crazy week has created quite nicely.

Heart, Sarah
